Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Pickup

Seymour Duncan SHR-1

The Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Pickup is called the Hot Rails Strat. The Hot Rails Strat is one of the highest output pickups that they make, and it is also one of their most popular. It contains a strong ceramic magnet for its high gain and bright highs. In addition, the powerfully wound coils give this pickup its massive output and sensitivity.

The SHR-1 gives the player a warm, thick sound with plenty of sustain and loads of midrange harmonics. Although it sounds good with any genre of music, it really excels at Rock, Hard Rock, Grunge, and Metal, where you need a thick distortion with heavy and chunky chords.

The four-conductor lead wire install allows the player to use the pickup as is, or by splitting the coil and creating a single coil, for more versatility with your tone.

As with all Seymour Duncan pickups, each is handmade in Santa Barbara, CA to ensure quality as well as tone perfection. The SHR-1 is made in bridge and neck versions. Great players of the Seymour Duncan SHR-1 include Dave Murray from Iron Maiden and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

Our resident electronics wizard came by his skills honestly — first as an apprentice in his father’s repair shop, later as a working musician and (most recently) as a sound designer for film. His passion for guitar led him to Humbucker Soup, where he continues to decode the wonders of wiring and the vicissitudes of voltage. Ed has never taken his guitar to a shop — he already knows how to fix it.
