Question
Hello, I am trying to find a wiring diagram for 3 humbuckers (old style 1 hot and 1 ground) with 3 volumes and 1 tone or whatever will work with 4 holes. I need to use a blade switch 3 way or 5 way. It is for a student in my high school woodworking class. Any help would be great.
Thanks john
Answer
Hello John,
Thank you for the great question. Your setup offers many customization options down the road, but for now, we’ll keep it simple.
We’ll run each pickup directly to its own volume control, then to a five-way switch to give you more tonal options. It will work like a Strat, giving you bridge, bridge-middle, middle, middle-neck, and neck selections. From the switch, the signal will travel to the tone control and output jack. The capacitor value will be between 0.022 and 0.047 µF (likely 0.022 µF).
The wiring is straightforward: the hot wire from each pickup goes to the volume pot lug, and the ground wire gets soldered to the back of the pot. Many people also bend and solder the third lug directly to the pot, eliminating the need for a short wire.
Let us know how it turns out!
