Peavey Axcelerator Rail Humbucker Coil Splitting

Peavey Axcelerator Rail Humbucker Coil Splitting

Question

I own an early 90’s USA Peavey Axcelerator with 3 single-coil housing blade humbuckers, and I would like to change a pot to a push/pull one to split all coils. If you have a diagram of how to do it I would be very grateful. If it’s not possible I would like to have the color coding of the pickup wires.

Daniel

Answer

Hello Daniel,
I’m afraid it’s not possible to use one push-pull to split three humbuckers. Each will need its own switch. The vast majority of push-pull pots are DPDT (double pole, double throw), meaning it’s two 2 way switches in one housing, so you can use it to split 1 or 2 humbuckers at once if you want to.
To split 3 three humbuckers at once, you will need a 3PDT (three-pole double throw). Unfortunately, I could not find any in a push-pull style with a quick search, but there are some toggle switches available that will work.

I believe the Peavy pickup wiring code is as follows:
Black = Hot
Red + White =ied together and used for splitting
Green and bare =Ground

If that code isn’t right, I recommend using a multimeter to get the right code at our article here: Coil-Splitting a Humbucker Pickup with a Push-Pull Pot – Humbucker Soup.
