A phase shifter is a phase shifter is a phase shifter… right? well, kind of, well, not really…. each of these offers a little variation on sound and many of them offer a lot of variation in features and performance. Not all phase shifters are created equal, but some are pretty damm good.
Ibanez Tone-Lok PM7 Phase Modulator Pedal
This pedal features 3 types of wave forms and 3 phase modes that you can mix and match for a variety of sounds, not a bad sounding pedal for the low price.
Maxon PT999 Phase Tone
Pretty simple, just a “Speed” knob.
DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal
This is a pretty neat little phasor. The “Trigger” function lets you break out of the cycle and set the phase to start at the bottom and go up, or vice versa. This one also has a few other little odd but fun features to generate all kinds of strange sounds.
MXR M-107 Phase 100 Effects Pedal
The Grand Daddy of Phase pedals with four Phase voices and speed control. If you are not sure which Phase pedal to get, just buy this one, it’s got all the classic sounds.
This one also has “Rise” and “Fall” modes for unique, unidirectional phasing. You can control the Rate, Filter, and Tempo levels via optional expression pedal. You can also set the rate via tap tempo. Boss stuff just works, sounds great and never breaks.
Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Peda
Another one-knob wonder, this one pretty much nails the classic small stone sound. EH was kind enough to add true bypass this time.
MXR M-101 Phase 90 Pedal
Once again, one knob, no manual required. Another “Buy first ask questions later” pedal. The Phase 100 offers more options, but this one is another true classic. Van Halen used this on a lot of the really early classics.
MXR CSP-101CL Custom Shop Script Phase 90 with LED Phaser Pedal
A reissue of the Phase 90 with the early script lettering that many think makes the pedal sound better. It doesn’t. But, if it makes you feel better, rock on.
MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90
Well her ya go. If you wanna do the whole “VH” thing, this one comes with the striped logo…. which makes you sound exactly like Van Halen…right? (no).
