What Is a blocked tremolo bridge?

If the term “Blocked Tremolo Bridge” confounds you, we de-mystify this simple technique

Q: What is a “Blocked Tremolo Bridge”?

A: A “Blocked” tremolo bridge is simply a normal tremolo bridge (with an arm, just a normal “Whammy” bar type bridge) that is modified in the back so that it is “Fixed” and can no longer be used as a tremolo.

Some may ask: “Why not just buy a guitar with a hard tail bridge, or just don’t touch your whammy bar?”

Well, “Blocking” your bridge is a very popular technique because some believe that the tremolo assembly provides a certain inherent tonal quality, and even though they do not plan to use the whammy bar, they would rather have a tremolo bridge that is “Blocked” than a guitar that has a hard-tail. This is all a matter of personal preference.
